With hoards of hollyhocks and lush green fields in the summer, its cluster of cottages, babbling brook at the ford and Grade 1 listed church, the sleepy little village of Marlesford is quintessentially English. The single carriageway A12 is about 800 yards away so gives easy access to the popular seaside towns like Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Southwold, as well as to the sprawling forests and heaths. The surrounding narrow country lanes make intriguing mystery tours inland to the rest of the county of Suffolk. The market town of Wickham Market is about 3 miles away and has a variety of independent shops, and a locally renowned butcher. The much visited, historic riverside town of Woodbridge is about 7 miles away with further shops, pubs and restaurants, together with a pool, cinema and railway station. Beside the A12, moreorless opposite the lane leading towards Lime Tree Barn, the Farm Café serves homemade food until 5pm (including excellent breakfasts from 7am!!), and also has a grocery shop with local organic produce which is open until 6pm. Goat Cottage is a recently renovated cart lodge on a small working farm and has gained its name after the three friendly and comical goats which live in the adjacent field. This single storey, well presented holiday home provides comfortable, thoughtfully prepared accommodation for not more than four people. Although only a half a mile or so from the A12, Goat Cottage is found at the end a long farm track, passing a cluster of little cottages, and with rural views across fields. After letting yourself in through the five bar gate and into your large, private garden and parking area, you will notice that the front of the property has several sets of double patio doors which make the rooms very light and airy - and, if opened, wonderfully cool on long hot summer nights. A stable door leads you into Goat Cottage and into a spacious entrance hall with plenty of boot and coat storage, together with a washing machine and the oil fired boiler providing underfloor heating throughout the property. Off the entrance hall is pleasantly spacious bathroom with a shower bath, wash basin and w.c. - one of the walls has been left with the original exposed Suffolk brick wall for added character. A couple of steps up from the entrance hall brings you into the open plan living area with large windows to the front and the back making it very light and airy, and the focal point woodburner can also make it lovely and cosy too. There is a built-in kitchen area with microwave, electric cooker, fridge with ice making compartment and a dining area making this whole room very much the 'heart of the house'. Beyond this main living area, there are two bedrooms both with pine, king size beds, ample storage, and both with opening garden doors. As well as the woodburner, there is underfloor heating throughout and the windows are all hand made, wooden, double sealed units giving extra warmth in the winter. For the comfort of their visitors, the owners also provide all bedlinen and towels, a flatscreen TV, a DVD and CD player with a small library of films and music, freeview, 'unofficial' internet access from the main farmhouse and, outside garden furniture and a BBQ. The owners can also provide a travel cot and high chair but please remember to request these at the time of making your booking. As long as it is kept under strict control and does not frighten the goats, a small, well behaved dog is welcome at the property - please do not leave any traces of your pet inside the property and always clear up after it especially in the garden. Smoking is not permitted inside and please remember to dispose of your 'ends' thoughtfully and carefully should you partake outside.
