Just staying at a holiday home with a name like Oxo Cottage is intriguing enough! Oxo Cottage, named after a local character, is believed to date back to the 1550s and was, once upon a time, two cottages which have now been converted into one spacious house offering very pleasant accommodation for not more than eight people. It oozes character and has many period features like the inglenook fireplaces, brick and wooden floors, beams everywhere (some need ducking), steep 'cottagey' stairs and some very low doorways. The High Street is more of a lane than a road and the front door leads straight into a good sized dining room which can comfortably accommodate eight people around a large table in front of a wood burning stove in one of the cottage's inglenook fireplaces. The sitting room is off the dining room with another inglenook fireplace (this open fire can be used but with extreme care), together with a television, DVD player and comfortable seating. Also on the ground floor and to the back of the cottage is a stylish and well fitted kitchen including a microwave, mini hi-fi music system, a washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, built-in electric cooker, dishwasher, the central heating boiler and a breakfast table for four. There are double glazed doors (low head room!) leading out to the very big rear garden, mainly laid to lawn but which also has a suntrap patio area with a BBQ and outside furniture and an area of decking. Beside another back door to the rear garden is a wet room cloakroom with a shower, WC and washbasin. Next to this is a ground floor bedroom with a double bed and another set of double glazed doors giving views out onto the rear garden. Behind a door in the dining room, very steep, curved wooden stairs lead up into (very low head room again!) a bedroom with a double bed off which is a walk-through bathroom with a hand held shower over the bath, WC, wash basin and shaver socket. A very low door leads from the bathroom onto a little landing area off which is one bedroom with a single bed and a pair of bunk beds and a further bedroom with a single bed. A second set of steep, curved wooden stairs go from the landing down to a door and into the sitting room. As well as the wood burner in the dining room, there is oil fired central heating serving radiators around the house which, in winter, makes it a warm and cosy cottage. Parking is roadside outside the cottage. The owners provide pillows, duvets and all bedlinen but visitors are requested to bring their own bathroom towels and teacloths with them. It should be noted that, due to the low ceilings, room sizes and overall accessibility, clothes storage facilities are limited but adequate. One well behaved pet is allowed but there is a no smoking policy. Oxo Cottage runs from Friday to Friday.
