Originally thought to date back to the 1720s, the delightful Cherry Tree Cottage was captured in the famous painting by Thomas Churchyard of ‘The Cherry Tree Inn’. Cherry Tree Cottage, the first house in Cumberland Street, is found opposite the Notcutts Garden Centre and about 15 yards up from The Cherry Tree pub (Adnams). The river, shops, pubs, restaurants and all other facilities are within easy walking distance. For those wishing to holiday with others but have their own separate accommodation, it should be noted that Cherry Tree Cottage is right next door to Chesterford, 1 Ipswich Road which sleeps 4/6 people. * This small, semi detached, characterful, Grade II listed cottage offers well presented and cosy accommodation for not more than two/three people. Cherry Tree Cottage has been refurbished to a high and comfortable standard, whilst retaining the low doors, steep stairs and other olde worlde charms characteristic of an eighteenth century cottage. The front door leads straight into the living room which has comfortable seating, a combination television and video, mini radio/cd player and an open fire which can be used with great care. The small fitted kitchen has gas hobs, a built-in oven, microwave, larder fridge, ample cooking and dining facilities, a table and chairs and a stable door out into the back garden. The bathroom is off the kitchen with a shower cubicle, WC, wash basin and a washer/dryer is located in the airing cupboard.
From the kitchen, straight but very steep stairs lead up to the first floor where there is a four foot wide double bed in the little back bedroom. The front bedroom has a 4’6” double bed and windows on two sides which makes this a light room with views to the landscaped Notcutts gardens opposite. The owners provide duvets, pillows and all bedlinen but please remember to bring towels and teacloths with you.
The small rear garden has a patio area with outside table and chairs, a lawn and established flower beds. As there is side access to the rear via next door’s driveway and a good sized, lockable shed, visitors may want to bring bikes with them.
Cherry Tree Cottage does not have private parking but there are various places close by where you can leave a vehicle. * As well as the open fire, there is gas central heating serving radiators through out. Wood for the open fire can be purchased locally. Pets can not be accepted at Cherry Tree Cottage and smokers are requested to indulge outside only, please. One child is welcome but, due to the steepness of the stairs, a minimum age limit of eight years is recommended.
