Set deep in the midst of the Suffolk countryside,
yet only a few miles from the A14, the A140 and
the A12, Witnesham is a pleasant village with
a a popular pub,
The Barley Mow (about a 10 minute walk from
The Old Stable). Sadly, the store cum post office has closed but there is still a fruit and vegetable wholesaler in the village which also sells local eggs, milk and fruit juice, and Swiss Farm butchers is open in the next door village, Ashbocking (full details are in the house file at the Old Stable.
Manor Farm is a non-working farm and is found down a little narrow lane, beside the church. The farmhouse dates back to the 15th century and the original stable block, adjacent to the cartlodge, has been converted and fully refurbished into extremely pleasant self-catering holiday accommodation for 4/6 people. Many of the original features have been retained throughout the house, including the manger in the sitting room. With far reaching views across the fields and being beside the water meadows with a babbling brook, The Old Stable is the perfect retreat for an ‘away from it all’ holiday. The owners’ home is about 40 yards away and, in summer, is not visible from The Old Stable. The nearby main roads provide easy access to all corners of the county and the coast and the many narrow (sometimes very narrow!) country lanes give hours of curious exploring. The Fynn Valley 'pay and play' golf course is close by and open to non-members - website: www.fynn-valley.co.uk.
The front door goes straight into a spacious, light and airy sitting room with a dining table and chairs in one corner. There are three leather sofas, a television with a DVD which also plays CDs and MP3s and a radio. One of the sofas opens out into a metal frame double sofa bed for occasional visitors. Beside the dining area, a door goes into a good sized, well fitted kitchen with a fridge with ice box, microwave, built in electric hobs and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, a breakfast table and chairs and adequate cooking and dining equipment. There is also a downstairs shower room with a shower cubicle, WC and wash basin.
Solid, straight wooden stairs go up to the first floor where there are two attractive bedrooms – one with a wrought iron double bed and the other with two wrought iron single beds. There are good wardrobes and storage facilities in both rooms as well as on the landing. The bathroom has a bath, WC and wash basin. The owners provide pillows, duvets, all bedlinen and towels.
Upstairs, heating is provided by electric panel heaters and, beneath the brick flooring throughout downstairs, there is underfloor heating.
There is a designated parking area between The Old Stable and the cartlodge.
There is outside furniture on a terrace area beside the house and visitors are welcome to find a little niche to relax in in the adjacent meadows. A public footpath passes by The Old Stable which links up with many others crisscrossing the countryside – one takes you to The Moon and Mushroom in Swilland about 30 minutes walk away.
Although children are welcome at The Old Stable and will very probably love the open spaces and fileds, parents must be fuly aware that the garden is totally open and there is a stream nearby.
As this is wonderful walking country, one, small, well behaved dog is allowed but please remember that everything is brand new at The Old Stable and your pet must not be allowed on any of the furniture and all traces of it are removed from inside and outside the property at the end of your stay, please. Smoking is not permitted inside the property.
